European Technology Forum 2009 - Press Release

Fujitsu's European Technology Forum 2009

Emphasises Research that Contributes to Business Growth

London, UK, 27th August 2009 - Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe Limited is staging its fourth annual European Technology Forum this autumn, taking place from 16-17 September in central London. The theme for this year's event is "Contributing to Business Growth", underlining the event's focus on technologies and innovations that promote a green, sustainable society and are closely harmonised with the real-world business objectives of improving efficiencies and reducing costs.

The European Technology Forum agenda covers four key areas - Focus on the Environment, Human-Centric Computing, Service Agility & Innovation, and Empowering the Individual at Work. Its supporting exhibition features over 20 demonstrations of the latest technologies to be developed by Fujitsu Laboratories, whose President, Dr Kazuo Murano, will be giving the keynote address to an invited audience of international systems architects, IT experts and technologists.

Dr Murano commented:
"Fujitsu's research and development activities are focused on contributing to business growth, as we work to fulfil our responsibility to evolve dynamic ideas into practical, efficient and responsible business solutions that also deliver substantial cost reductions. The European Technology Forum is an important conduit - helping us to share ideas and shape new technologies that will deliver a better, safer and more rewarding networked society, bringing technology and business together to enable a harmonised R&D roadmap for the future. I believe that in addition to science and technology, business models and social responsibility form equally important elements in today's corporate research and development programmes. We are working towards a safer and more secure society, underpinned by the core values of corporate social responsibility, protection of the global environment and a sustainable, reliable social infrastructure. These are the guiding principles of Fujitsu's corporate R&D activities, which in turn drive our annual European Technology Forum."

The comprehensive technology exhibition includes a wide cross-section of innovations and leading-edge developments:

  • Range of secure technologies that address the protection of people, processes, information and boundaries - from communications and data handling to building access, and including encryption for paper documents, advanced theft protection for laptops and a secure USB memory device
  • An energy modelling solution that visualises and interprets the energy and heat flow through large facilities, such as data centres, enabling efficiency measures to be modelled and implemented with a prior understanding of their total ROI impact.
  • Real-time Sensor Network that uses Fujitsu's Ad-Hoc network routing technology to monitor a wide range of information - from building structures and disaster areas to crop growth
  • High Performance Computing: New Technology and Applications, focusing on Fujitsu's latest technologies , including the roadmap for developing the SPARC64™ VIIIfx processor, a new intelligent communications 3D torus interconnect, and the low-power, high-density technologies behind Fujitsu's petascale-class computers
  • Fujitsu's Secure E-mail Solution providing end-to-end email management, ensuring full compliance with the EuroSOX 8th EU business guidelines. Combining a comprehensive email audit trail, efficient archiving and maximum ease of use.
